Understanding Your Analytics

The Analytics dashboard gives you insight into how guests interact with your guide. You can see how many people viewed your guide, which sections they found most useful, what devices they used, and where they accessed it from.

Guide Views

The guide views metric shows how many times your published guide has been accessed by guests. This is the most fundamental analytics metric and gives you a sense of overall reach.

Total views - Every time a guest loads your guide page, it counts as a viewUnique sessions - Individual browsing sessions, so one guest visiting multiple times shows as multiple sessionsTime-based filtering - View data for today, this week, this month, or a custom date rangePer-property breakdown - See views for each property separately or as an aggregate across your portfolio

Pro Tip

A spike in views usually means a new set of guests has checked in. Compare your view trends with your booking calendar to see how guide usage aligns with occupancy.

Section Heatmap

The section heatmap shows which sections of your guide guests interact with most. Sections with more clicks appear more prominently, helping you understand what information guests value most.

WiFi and Check-In sections typically get the most clicksLow-click sections may need better titles or more useful contentUse the heatmap to decide which sections to prioritise when updatingClick the section analytics for a detailed breakdown of each section

Pro Tip

If a section has very low engagement, consider whether it is useful to guests. You might want to merge it with another section, improve its title, or move it higher in the guide order.

Device & Location Data

Understanding which devices and locations your guests use helps you optimise your guide for the best experience.

Device Breakdown

See the split between mobile, tablet, and desktop users. Most guests view guides on their mobile phone, which is why CheckinGuide is designed mobile-first.

Location Data

Country-level data shows where your guests are accessing the guide from. This can help you understand your guest demographics and consider whether to add multi-language support.

Guest Journey Timeline

The guest journey timeline shows the sequence of actions guests take when viewing your guide. This helps you understand the typical flow: which section they look at first, how long they spend, and what path they take through your content.

First section viewed - See what guests look at immediately after opening your guideNavigation flow - Understand the order in which guests browse through sectionsTime on guide - Approximate time spent on the guide per sessionReturn visits - Track when guests come back to reference information again

Interpreting Your Data

High views, low section clicks - Guests may be finding what they need quickly (WiFi, check-in) without exploring further. This is often fine. One section dominates clicks - That section is clearly the most useful. Make sure it is always up to date and detailed.Views spike then drop - Normal pattern - guests check the guide at check-in and may return once or twice during their stay.International visitors - If you see many visitors from non-English-speaking countries, consider adding translations to key sections.Desktop vs mobile split - If desktop is unusually high, some guests may be checking your guide before they arrive - make sure pre-arrival info is easy to find.

Troubleshooting

  • Analytics showing zero views → Views are only counted for published guides accessed via the guest link. Preview views in the editor are not counted.
  • Section clicks not appearing → Section click tracking requires guests to actually expand or interact with sections. If all sections are expanded by default, clicks may be lower.
  • Country data showing as unknown → Country detection is based on IP geolocation. Some VPN users or unusual networks may show as unknown.
  • Data seems delayed → Analytics data is processed in near real-time but may take a few minutes to appear. Refresh the page to see the latest data.
  • Views seem too high → Each page load counts as a view. If a guest refreshes or returns to the guide, it counts as additional views. Unique sessions are tracked separately.
