Add local recommendations with AI-powered suggestions, bulk actions, templates, and reusable workflows.

Last reviewed: September 2026

What are Host Picks?

Host Picks are your personal local recommendations that appear in your guest guide. You can suggest restaurants, cafes, attractions, and more - giving guests an insider's guide to your area. Each recommendation can include a description, your personal tip, address, rating, and a link to Google Maps.

The 3-Step Workflow

Adding Host Picks follows a simple 3-step process that is always visible in the editor:

1

Select a category

Choose from standard categories (Restaurants, Cafes, Pubs, etc.) or create your own custom category. The category determines what type of places the AI will suggest.2

Click AI Suggest

Once you have selected a category, click the AI Suggest button. The system will search for nearby places and show you a preview with checkboxes so you can select exactly which ones to add.3

Review and save

Review the selected places, add your personal tips or notes, and save. You can also manually search for places that were not suggested.

Pro Tip

The 3-step guide is always visible in the Host Picks editor to help you remember the workflow. You can collapse it once you are familiar with the process.

AI Suggest Preview & Selection

When you click AI Suggest, results no longer save automatically. Instead, a preview dialog appears showing all suggested places with checkboxes. You choose exactly which places to add.

Preview before saving - See all AI-suggested places in a dialog before any are added to your guideCheckbox selection - Tick the places you want and leave the rest uncheckedSelect All / Deselect All - Quickly toggle all results on or off with one clickPlace details visible - Each result shows its name, rating, and category so you can make informed choicesOnly selected are saved - Click 'Add Selected' and only your chosen places are added to the guide

Bulk Actions

When you have multiple recommendations, you can use bulk actions to manage them efficiently. Toggle "Select Mode" from the toolbar to enable checkboxes on each item.

Bulk delete - Select multiple items and delete them all at onceBulk hide/show - Toggle visibility for several recommendations in one clickBulk move to category - Move selected items to a different category without editing each oneSelect all in category - Quickly select all items in the current filtered view

Pro Tip

Bulk actions are available when you have 2 or more recommendations. The toolbar shows the number of selected items and available actions.

Categories

Standard Categories

These categories come built-in and are optimised for the AI Suggest feature. Each category tab shows the number of picks it contains (e.g. "Restaurants (6)").

Custom Categories

You can create your own categories for anything specific to your area. Custom categories let you pick an emoji icon and give the category any name you like.

Dog-friendly spots with a paw emojiBeach activities with a wave emojiFamily attractions with a family emojiHidden gems with a gem emojiAnything unique to your property or location

Pro Tip

Custom categories also work with AI Suggest. The system will try to match the category name to relevant Google Places types for the best results.

How AI Suggest Works

AI Suggest uses your property's location and the selected category to search Google Places for relevant nearby businesses and points of interest.

Location-aware - Uses your property coordinates to find places within a reasonable distanceCategory-matched - Maps your selected category to Google Places types for accurate resultsRich data - Pulls in ratings, opening hours, photos, phone numbers, and website linksSmart caching - Results are cached to reduce costs and speed up repeat searchesPreview first - Results appear in a preview dialog with checkboxes - you choose what to addManual override - You can always add, remove, or edit any suggestion after saving

Personalising Recommendations

After adding places, you can personalise each recommendation to make it more useful for guests. All fields can be edited inline without opening a separate form.

Inline editing - Edit name, description, category, and host tip directly in the list viewHost tip - Add a personal recommendation like 'Try the seafood pasta - it is incredible'Mark as favourite - Star your top picks so they stand out in the guideCustom description - Override the default description with your own wordsVisibility control - Hide or show individual recommendations without deleting themSort order - Drag and drop to reorder recommendations within a category

Import from Template

You can import recommendations from an existing template directly in the property editor without navigating to the Templates page. This is perfect for quickly populating a new property with your curated picks.

1

Click Import from Template

In the Host Picks editor, click the 'Import from Template' button in the toolbar.2

Select a template

Choose from your saved templates. Each template shows its name and the number of picks it contains.3

Recommendations are added

The template's recommendations are copied into your property. You can then edit, reorder, or remove any of them.

Pro Tip

Importing from a template adds to your existing picks - it does not replace them. If you want to start fresh, use the bulk actions to clear existing picks first.

Host Picks Templates

If you manage multiple properties in the same area, Host Picks Templates let you save a set of recommendations and apply them to other properties instantly.

1

Save as template

In the Host Picks editor, save your current recommendations as a template. Give it a name like 'Edinburgh Old Town Picks' or 'Cornwall Coast Favourites'.2

Preview and duplicate

View any template's picks in a preview modal before applying. You can also duplicate templates to create variations for different areas.3

Apply to guides

When applying a template, choose between 'Merge' (add alongside existing picks) or 'Replace' (clear existing picks first). The apply modal shows a category breakdown so you know exactly what will be added.4

Customise per property

After applying a template, you can still edit, add, or remove individual recommendations for each property. Templates are a starting point, not a constraint.

Pro Tip

Templates are especially useful for property managers with multiple listings in the same neighbourhood. Set up your recommendations once, then reuse them everywhere.

Troubleshooting

  • AI Suggest not finding any places → Make sure your property has a valid address with coordinates. The AI uses your property location to search for nearby places.
  • Recommendations appearing in the wrong category → You can change the category of any recommendation by editing it. Categories are assigned automatically but can be adjusted.
  • Google Places data looks outdated → Place data is cached to reduce costs. It refreshes periodically. The core details (name, address, rating) are usually accurate.
  • Custom category not showing in guide → Make sure the custom category has at least one visible recommendation. Empty categories are hidden from guests.
  • Cannot find the Host Picks Templates option → Host Picks Templates are available from the property editor. Look for the templates icon in the Host Picks section toolbar.
  • Bulk actions not appearing → Bulk actions become available when you have 2 or more recommendations. Toggle 'Select Mode' from the toolbar to enable checkboxes.
  • Import from Template not showing any templates → You need to save at least one template first. Go to the Templates tab and save your current picks as a template.
  • AI Suggest preview showing no results → Try a different category or check that your property has a valid address. Some categories may have fewer results in rural areas.
